A PAIR OF CHALCEDONY SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND EARRINGS BY SUZANNE BELPERRON, CIRCA 1942 Each of scroll design, composed of carved chalcedony inset with a circular-cut sapphire weighing 1.54 carats and single-cut and rose diamonds, weighing 0.19 carat.

Large clip-on earrings were the style of the day and Belperron created interesting shapes and designs set with her signature carved gems. Spiral shells, leaves, fans and other textural shapes were her favorites, laying the foundations for the company’s style of the 1930s and 1940s.

As with all pieces designed by Suzanne Belperron and executed by Adrien Louart the scale is perfect, and the extraordinary lapidary work enhances the design.
